artxhiphop: intersessions v1

I’m all about making work that deals with the intersection of art and hip hop. These are two subjects that I know very well yet when I talk about it with people in the art world, they think it’s cute. Likewise happens when I talk to hip hop heads. They think I’m being cute. However, both have collided numerous times over the course of American history. If we are to accept that groups of people create their own culture then eventually we must accept and realize that art and hip hop would cross each other in the web of life. On 24 February, Fahamu Pecou is going to host a conversation between notoriously accepted King of the South, rapper/actor TI and the High Museum of Art’s curator of contemporary art, Michael Rooks. I really hope I’ll have the ability to attend that night and hear men speak. TI is most well-known for ushering in the era of trap music and Rooks has become well-known for really bringing the High’s contemporary works into the 21st century, IMO. Both men stay involved in the Atlanta community and what better place and way for two different worlds to collide than through conversation? I dunno either. It’s fucking bold on Fahamu’s part.
